Events include adjudications, workshops for students, Broadway celebrities, a New Works Showcase, Awards Ceremonies and the largest collection of musical theater professional development under one roof. Held annually in Atlanta, GA over Martin Luther King Weekend, JTF has become a must attend musical theater event and has served as the launch for Disney’s High School Musical and NBC’s SMASH. The festival has welcomed guests such as Disney Theatrical Productions President, Thomas Schumacher, musical theater writers such as Alan Menken, Jeanine Tesori, Benj Pasek, Justin Paul, Lynn Ahrens, Stephen Flaherty, Thomas Meehan, Martin Charnin, Charles Strouse, actors like Skylar Astin, Briga Heelan, Christian Borle, Brian D’Arcy James, Zac Efron, Megan Hilty, Corey Cott, Shoshana Bean, Darren Criss, Ryann Redmond, Arielle Jacobs, Cory Lingner, Curt Hansen and many more. You never know who will show up! Since its inception in 2003, JTF has grown from 650 people in attendance to over 4,500 attendees. It is a weekend of true musical theater madness that is not to be missed!
WHAT IS JTF?
The Junior Theater Festival is the largest celebration of musical theater for young people and is produced by the Junior Theater Group and iTheatrics.
WHEN IS JTF?
JTF Atlanta (#JTFATL) is held annually in January just north of downtown Atlanta at the Cobb Galleria Centre. JTF West (#JTFWEST) is held every year on the weekend prior to President’s Day weekend in Sacramento, California at the Sacramento Convention Center.
WHY SHOULD MY GROUP ATTEND JTF?
JTF gives everyone who attends the opportunity to experience the transformative power of musical theater through watching performances, attending workshops, and making connections with other musical theater groups from around the world.
WHO ATTENDS JTF?
Any school, after-school or community theater group that has done or is planning to do a Broadway JR. or KIDS collection show.
IF I’M NOT PART OF A GROUP, CAN I COME TO THE FESTIVAL?
Teachers, Directors and any adult who works with young people in musical theater can attend JTF on the Professional Development Track. Students must be part of a group.
IS THERE A ONE DAY PASS?
No, there is not a one day pass available. Everyone who attends the festival must either pay the participation fee and attend with a group or pay the registration fee to attend on the Professional Development Track.
IS THERE AN AGE REQUIREMENT FOR PARTICIPATING STUDENTS?
Any student between the ages of 8 and 18 is welcome to attend and perform with a group.
WHAT SIZE IS A TYPICAL GROUP?
20-40 participants. There is a minimum of 20 participants per group. This number includes students, chaperones, directors and any additional family and friends.
WHAT DOES A GROUP DO AT JTF?
Groups perform a 15 minute selection from one Broadway JR. or KIDS Collection show for adjudication, participate in workshops specifically designed for student performers, and watch outstanding performances by their peers.
IS THERE PROGRAMMING FOR MY TECHNICAL THEATER STUDENTS?
Of course! Students interested in behind the scenes work can participate on the Student Technical Theater Track which features specialized workshops in technical theater, participate in the Tech Olympics and potentially become a Technical Theater All-Star.
HOW DO I REGISTER?
This year, we’re completely online! If you want to register a group, fill out the registration form at juniortheaterfestival.com with your $675 non-refundable registration fee. If you are registering on the Professional Development track, fill out the registration form at juniortheaterfestival.com with your $350 participation fee.

WHAT FORMS OF PAYMENT ARE ACCEPTED?
We accept Mastercard, Visa and American Express as well as checks and money orders made out to Junior Theater Group.
WHEN DO I NEED TO REGISTER BY?
Registration opens for returning groups on March 15th. New groups can register beginning April 1st. Registration closes when all slots are full which happens early. Professional Development participants can register until November 1st.
I FILLED OUT MY REGISTRATION FORM. NOW WHAT?
Our festival coordinator will review your registration materials and email you when you have been officially accepted into the festival. This typically takes 2-3 weeks from the time of receipt. If you are not accepted, your registration fee will not be processed.
AFTER I RECEIVE MY ACCEPTANCE, WHAT ELSE DO I HAVE TO DO?
In the beginning of September, you will receive a packet of forms that will need to be filled out and returned to iTheatrics. These forms and full payment are due October 15th for JTF Atlanta and November 15th for JTF West.
